DBKA PLYMOUTH BRANCH HONEY SHOW & FAYRE 2024

Held again at the St. Budeaux Church Community Hall on Saturday 21st September, the Show was well supported by the membership, their family and friends and members of the public who popped in out of curiosity to have a look around.

With 44 entries from 16 exhibitors, entries were slightly down on last year; quite possibly due to the changing weather conditions throughout 2024, below par honey crops and the forecasted wet weather on the day.

Our Judge, Phil Aitken, was again impressed with the excellent standard of entries, making his job more difficult when declaring the winners.

Tim Norris who did incredibly well last year, didn’t fail to impress! He took several 1st and 2nd places and came away (again) with the Overall Winners Trophy, The Crysanthemum Cup.  The question now is …… can he do a ‘hat-trick’ in 2025 and come away with Overall Winners trophy for a third time?

While the main event was the Honey Show; people took the opportunity to browse the trade stalls, buy a jar of local honey, have their faces painted or have a catch-up chat over a cup of tea and enjoy some delightful home-made cake.

‘Blokes that Sing’ provided musical entertainment half way through the show, giving us a wonderful half hour of some favourite well-known songs and motivating some of the Entries Team into dance mode.

The show concluded with the Prize Giving with our Chairman (Mark Grieves) and Judge (Phil Aitken) presenting the trophies to some worthy winners.

Photographs were expertly taken by Bruce Robinson throughout the day can be viewed on the branch website/Facebook.

And concluding…….. on behalf of Honey Show Team, I would like to say ‘thank you’ to our volunteers and everyone who helped or supported the Honey Show, making it another pleasurable day out.

And the 2025 Honey Show?  There are some exciting changes afoot so watch this space!

DBKA PLYMOUTH BRANCH HONEY SHOW & FAYRE 2023

Held at the St. Budeaux Church Community Hall on Saturday 23rd September, the event was once again, well supported by our members with 72 entries from 25 exhibitors. Members of the public joined us too; thanks to Olga and Mark promoting the event through various social media.

This year saw two additional classes; Class 14 – Beeswax Wraps and Class 19 for the public to enter.

Our Judge, Phil Aitken, was well impressed with the standard of entries, making his job that much more difficult when deciding winners.

It was good to see more of our newer members enter and they did very well too.

Tim Norris, took several 1st’s and came away with the Overall Winners Trophy, The Crysanthemum Cup. Well done Tim!

Whilst judging was in progress, members/their families and the public took the opportunity to browse the various stalls, buy a jar of local honey, have a look at the live bee display or have their face painted or just have a good natter over a cup of tea and some delicious home-made produce. New to the event was Mick and his ‘Men in Black’ who gave us some superb musical entertainment.

The show concluded with the Prize Giving with our Chairman, Neil Downing-Waite, presenting the trophies to some very surprised and delighted people.

Photographs taken by Bruce Robinson (and there are quite a few!) can be viewed on the branch Facebook page and will be uploaded here soon.

Finally, on behalf of Honey Show Team, I would like to say a BIG ‘thank you’ to everyone who helped or supported the Honey Show, making it another successful and enjoyable occasion.
